This weekend over 1000 runners and walkers will gather in Winchester to take part in the 7th annual 5/10k road race in aid of the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. The race is open to adult and children and you can register online or on the day. The race starts at 12 pm at the Jenks Center in the heart of Winchester and follows a loop past Winchester High School, along Palmer Street through the Flats neighborhood, and back down Church Street through the town center, passing the commuter rail station and the town common. You can see the exact route here. 10k racers will complete the loop twice. Stick around for the post-race party at Winchester Town Hall!
We are proud to be sponsors of this race honoring Glen Doherty, a Winchester native and a former Navy SEAL. Glen was one of the four Americans killed in a terror attack in Benghazi, Libya in 2012. The memorial foundation set up in his name helps current and former special operations personnel transition to civilian life, and also helps the children and families of these professionals. Funds that are raised through the Road Race and other events go to provide scholarships, grants and gifts to these individuals and families. Learn more about the foundation and its work here.
