Art in August is celebrating its 20th successful year in Winchester! Each summer the Winchester Cultural Council pairs local businesses with artists to turn the downtown area into an arts colony. Painters, photographers, potters, fabric artists, jewelry-makers and other artists all get the opportunity to display their works, and businesses get the chance to support their community. Residents are invited to spend time viewing the exhibits throughout the month, and have a chance to meet the artists at a series of receptions hosted by businesses.
We are delighted to be a sponsor once again this year, and to be hosting exhibits from two artists who specialize in textiles. Denise Konicek is a quilt artist, and Kiyomi Yatsuhashi creates hand-dyed textiles. Please come and view their spectacular creations at our office (48 Mt Vernon St, Suite One) any time during August.
Art in August will begin with a Grand Opening Reception at the Griffin Museum of Photography on August 1st, from 7pm – 8:30pm. Wine and light refreshments will be served. This event is open to the public and is a great opportunity to meet the artists as well as the sponsors and organizers of the event.
We will also be hosting our own reception on Thursday, August 8th (6pm – 8pm) where you will once again have the opportunity to talk to the artists in a more intimate setting. Check back for further details on this and to find out about Art in the Park, a family-friendly event on Winchester Common on Saturday, August 17th.
Art in August is sponsored by the Winchester Cultural Council and the Winchester Artists Network (WAN). All events are free of charge to the public. For more information go to artinaugust.org
